ERPNext guides

Before your ERPNext project: agree what the first release must do

Define a practical first ERPNext release with clear workflows, owners, acceptance examples and a phased scope your team can test.

Start with one transaction, not a module list

A list of modules does not explain what a successful implementation looks like. Pick a transaction your team handles every day: an order, a purchase, a stock transfer or a production run. Follow it from the first request to the final report. Record who enters information, who checks it and where work currently stops.

Collect the exceptions

The usual process is only part of the scope. Ask what happens when an item is unavailable, a customer changes an order or someone needs to correct an approved record. These examples reveal decisions that a tidy process diagram can miss. Keep real examples with identifying information removed so everyone can discuss the same situation.

Separate requirements from implementation choices

Describe the outcome before deciding how to build it. A requirement might be that a supervisor approves purchases above an agreed threshold. Configuration, permissions and custom development are possible implementation choices. Review those choices with the delivery team rather than treating every requirement as a new application.

Give each acceptance check an owner

Write a short example for each important workflow. Include the starting data, actions and expected result. Name the person who can accept it on behalf of the business. A report is easier to review when the expected totals and the source transactions are written down.

Make the first release small enough to rehearse

Group the essential workflows into a first release and record later improvements separately. Assign data preparation, testing and training time to business owners as well as developers. Finish discovery with an agreed scope, open decisions and a testable definition of readiness. This gives the project a working plan that can change openly when new information appears.
